Watch your blogs, warns PM
Sunday July 29, 2007, The StarKUANTAN: Bloggers are as liable for defamation as publishers of printed materials, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi warned.
Commenting on the on-going debates regarding bloggers and their comments in Internet postings, the Prime Minister added:
“It is wrong for bloggers to go overboard, especially if they post slanderous articles against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Islam on the website,” he told reporters here yesterday.
“This is not something one can take lightly,” Abdullah added. (Con’t)
Mr Prime Minister.
It is wrong of you to be jetting off on yet another holiday without a public announcement. I may not like the former Prime Minister much, but at least he rarely took holidays and announced them in advance.
It is wrong of you to not even fly back and mourn the tragic loss of those who serve the country due to faulty helicopters.
It is wrong of you to allow Nat Tan to be arrested and roughed up by the police, and for Petra to be subjected to spurious dodgy investigations.
It is wrong of you to allow crime to escalate to unprecedented heights and now citizens have to fend for themselves.
It is wrong of you to allow blogs to be monitored (whether MCMC, or cyber-Siths) when blog give you valuable information about what is wrong with the country.
It is wrong of you to condone corruption and misuse of powers over and over again.
It is wrong of you to bring forth billion ringgit projects (like the Northern Corridor Project) when we don’t even have enough money to build the second bridge to Penang.
ps. We don’t take lightly to the fact that the most costly of all sitting MPs is hardly ever in Parliament.
