ACCCIM Expects Second Half Of 2007 To Be More Challenging

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) — The second half of 2007 is expected to be more challenging following the current volatility of the stock market globally, which has influenced the direction of Asian bourses, including Malaysia, according to the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM).

However, its president Tan Sri William Cheng said today the association remained optimistic on the outlook for the remaining months as several projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan have yet to be implemented.

prosperous Chinese by allowing them advantages in education, housing,
bank loans, government jobs and contracts.

“We must also allow other races to have opportunities to perform,”
said William Cheng, president of The Associated Chinese Chambers of
Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, or ACCCIM.

M’sian Chinese see tough times continuing in H2
Affirmative action for bumiputras among main factors causing pessimism

By PAULINE NG IN KUALA LUMPUR
Published September 4, 2007, Business Times Singapore

MALAYSIA’S Chinese community had a rough ride in the first half of
the year and is not sanguine about second-half prospects either, a
recent survey shows.

Domestic competition, rising raw material prices and operating costs,
as well as opaque government policies were the three factors which
most adversely affected the business performance of the Chinese
business community.

Despite the slew of ongoing government initiatives to ensure the
sustainability of the local economy, the community appears less
optimistic about economic prospects in H2.
