Saturday morning saw us at Kg Kayu Ara Selatan, where we organised a press conference with the residents of Antara Vistana who had been waiting for court ordered compensation (due to late delivery of flats) for almost a year now. This compensation was between 5 to 8 thousand ringgit.
The residents were told the company had no money and were asked to accept payment between RM 800-1200 each family. But some 130 families are still pressing for the full amount to be paid.
One of the directors, a former Umno branch treasurer strolled in and denied everything. But when the residents asked for a schedule of their repayment, he moved away.
A local Umno heads took the opportunity to speak to the media and complained that even he, as a local leader, was embarrassed that the BN reps did not assist them. He showed us a letter from the Prime Minister’s Department, dated February, which vaguely reassuring them that he would look into the matter. (I’ll post the letter later), no doubt to appease them until the General Elections.
We found out too in the morning, that our 2 pondoks were destroyed earlier this morning by thugs from the BN at Damansara Damai around 4-5 am. A van, a kancil and 2 motorbikes were used by these thugs. They had smashed the pondoks (photos to be uploaded later) and this afternoon, a welder had to be called in to fix it back again. 😦
We also heard another car had tailed our poster team which then proceeded to cut down our freshly hung poster-lines and tore down buntings. It would cost us several thousand ringgit to get fresh supplies of buntings and to rebuild the tents – money that the Opposition can ill-afford.
Our response to this piece of BN thuggery is:- to rebuild everything again (and the PAS guys were really fantastic with their help and expertise) and have a ceramah at Damansara Damai on Sunday night :D!
So finally, here’s my long-overdue call for donations via my blog – something which some politico-bloggers have been experimenting, with some sucess.. I’d been wanting to do this for some time, but haven’t had time to sit down and post it.
We need your financial contributions in order to effectively run this campaign. This is the most crucial in these last 6 days. My target is RM 30,000 for this remaining week, in our final push to victory.
Our funds will be spent on leaflets, brochures, posters, buntings, billboards, manpower, ceramah logistics (e.g., stage and amplifier systems), transport, SMS, etc.
If you require a receipt for your donation, please contact us at <firstname.lastname@example.org> with your donation details, name and mailing address. You can also call 016.311.0120 for enquiries, elizabethwong.org for more information.
