Operasi Lalang Strikes Again?
Press statement by Teresa Kok on 12th Sep 2008 at Kuala Lumpur
Today, blogger Raja Petra was nabbed under the ISA – Internal Security Act. In the meantime, three dailies viz. Sin Chew Jit Poh, The Sun and PKR’s party organ, Suara Keadilan were also slapped with show cause orders for their coverage of recent controversial issues.
The reaction of the government makes us wonder whether this is a prelude to a new “Operasi Lalang 1987″?
In this globalised age, it is incomprehensible that government would use such brute tactics against dissenters yet again.
It is very sad that media professionals are once again used as scapegoats to pay for the wrong doings of bigoted UMNO politicians. I am reminded of the “Nude Squat” incident when senior editors of The China Press were dismissed to take the rap for their coverage of the matter although that was clearly a matter of public interest.
The quick reaction of government in the case of Raja Petra and the three dailies slapped with “show cause” orders contrasts sharply with the “kids’ glove” treatment given to UMNO extremists and their inciteful hate speech.
I call upon civil society to rise up and speak out against this latest oppression of the human spirit and the assault of freedom of speech.
If the government wishes Malaysians to continue supporting it as a legitimate democratic government, it should immediately and unconditionally release Raja Petra and rescind the “show cause” orders issued to the three dailies.

Can’t even dissect (if any) rational argument here, there’s no ground for this arbitrarily imposed, outmoded Colonial’s law is used only as a draconian measures does not augur well for our justice system. There’s no “probable cause” all ur rights are muffled we’re being hoodwinked. Very sad and shameful day…
The Courage to Build a New Malaysia.

The year is 2008. This is the year most Malaysians finally woke up from a deep slumber. Most Malaysians were just too busy earning their living and building up their lives to take notice that times have changed and the idealism spouted by our founding Fathers have still not been accomplished for this country even today.
It was not so long ago in 1957 and then for our fellow East Malaysians in 1963 when the ideals and dreams preached by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj (Bapa Kemerdekaan and Bapa Malaysia) for Malaysia were first announced and was greeted with joy in the hearts and minds of all Malaysians. The late Tunku Abdul Rahman had a dream and ideals, just like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and many others including the prophets over the history of mankind.
Many a times such dreams were hijacked and led astray under the guise of nationalistic, racist and religious idealism by so called politicians and self declared and appointed righteous and religious persons (Little Napoleons). Individuals who have risen to continue some of such idealisms are gagged, isolated, bankcrupted, blasphemied, rehabilitated or worst jailed, for it is deemed not in consonance with the dreams and idealism of the elected parties agendas.
Laws are legislated and passed at whim in Parliament to change the idealism of the Supreme Law of the Land (The Malaysian Constitution) and to cloak such party and individual agendas. It is true, Malaysia, conforms to the democratic process as practiced by most western countries in elections (even though tainted but unproven). But once given the trust to be elected as a leader or representative of the people, party and individual idealism overtook national idealism, and The Jeykll and Hyde personality emerged to be repeated over and over again at each and every election and by-election.
Malaysians have being led astray for so long, that what is right is blurred, what is wrong is tolerated, what is evil is condoned, what is fair is pouted as unfair, what is immoral becomes moral and corruption and close one eye need to become a part of our accepted daily lives. Jealousy, hatred, greed, racism, plundering and satanism starts to breed in Malaysian minds, and brothers, friends and fellow Malaysians were looked upon as enemies or as inferior human beings. Once a while, such nets were cast ashore to include anything to do with other countries or other races which do not belong to one’s own race or religious beliefs.
The minds and souls of Malaysians are so polluted and poisoned for so many years that it seems that Malaysia is the only all correct country and we should rule the world by our way. Examples of countries which follows Malaysia or is it we following them are, such as North Korea, Zimbabwe and Israel. What justifications can you tell your own generations or future Malaysian generations that what you are doing to fellow mankind and more so to your own fellow Malaysians that it is righteous and correct, when, it is at the expense and sufferings of your own human kind and fellow Malaysians?
Can you say to them I did it to follow the orders and teachings of God or party political agendas? Who gave you such inspirations and idealism? Do not absolve your own wicked mind and greed nor take a ride on someone else wicked mind and greed. Do not pick and choose in the Books of God nor the man-made laws to justify or suit your own twisted and idealistic minds. You can fool others due to their ignorance or emotions at some time but you can’t fool forever a man’s conscience nor your own children or hopefully one day your own when such enlightenment comes to you.
The courage to change things which are not right in Malaysia nor achieve the ideals of the Founding Fathers is not impossible. Most Malaysians have woken up to the fact that the future is going to be determined by it’s own citizens thru their own conscience guided by their own religious beliefs to live a harmonious and productive life of correctness and not the type of political, racial or religious correctness as preached.
Parties and their own agendas do not take priority over the Founding Fathers ideals and hopes of all Malaysians. Religion and principles are as a guide to your own conscience to make sure whoever is the leader do not lead Malaysians nor society astray.
For in the end, what is just and right should surely overule anything else for any leader or their party agendas.

What fairness when the guy who started this racial issue in the first place was also not arrested under ISA. The poor innocent reporter was arrested because she reported the truth.
Then we have a former MB who credibility was questionable trying to provoke racial issue under the guise of religion. And yet this socalled
ex MB who many beleive is a p”pendatang” himself was also not arrested under ISA. The people representative Teresa Kok was arrested instead.
What fairness our country running leaders are talking about???
Take care of yourself and we are solidly behind you and others (RPK and Tan Hoon Cheng). Hope things will change soon. Praying for a new dawn on16 Sept.2008 ushering a new Malaysia.
The highlighted paragraph can be sensationalised. The final interpretation lies with the related authority and their endorsement will perceived legitimate.
The arrests of RPK, Teresa Kok and Tan Hoon Cheng under ISA is unprincipled and making a mockery of justice considering that they are telling the truth while the likes of Ahmad Ismail and Khir Toyo, who make seditious comments to stir up issues with the main itnention to divide the Malaysian community, remains free.
If Ahmad Badawi really considers himself a leader for all Malaysians, and a man of principles, he should do the right thing and free these detainees immediately and unconditionally and should then order the immediate arrest of Ahmad Ismail and Khir Toyo. In the eyes of justice, there cannot be separate sets of rules – for those who support the government and for those who disagree.

You are right, this is merely instigated to provoke racial disharmony. Why don’t we propose to have as many as possible and volunteer ourselves to have the gomen arrest us. See how many can they detain and whether Kamunting have enough places for all of us, 10,000, 20K 30K? We will tell the gomen that we do not mind being with The reporter, RPK and Teresa inside this detention camp. After all, is only for a few days as DSAI and PR shall form a new govt to release us. Any one interested to take a chance with free lodging and food. Life inside is not that bad, it will be exciting with so many of us, we will have fun inside the camp. Since if there are many of us, the authorities will think twice if they abuse their power. I for one will not hesitate to volunteer to be inside. How long can the gomen detain us if there are so many to feed and to control us inside this camp will be a gigantic task. These idiots, believe me will be outnumbered by us.

A very important message to Pakatan Rakyat and Elizabeth Wong – Please make sure that all exisitng laws which is against the rule of law, i.e. the ISA, OSA, etc. were abolished and not enacted in other form.
It is only a matter of time for Pakatan to take over the government. If we look at history, there are too many cases that when opposition parties came to power they became even more corrupted. So, I urged you who was a human rights activist for so long to push for that reform. Abolishing of those evil acts, and promotion of Freedom of Information, with a timeline. Pledge to the public, what you will do and when will you do it and what is the priority. And what is the guideline or rather code of conduct for PR MPs on corruption. If I buy you a coffee at starbucks when we discuss the development of a piece of hillside land, is it allowed? Or if I buy you a Nokia phone as a souvenior when you visited my handphone shop, is it corruption?
Please, don’t pledge that you will fight corruption. Full stop. Tell the details. You are the government now. What is your code of conduct? Put it open, made it downloadable on the internet so that if there is any misconduct by the MPs, the public can observe and scrutise,
