Why Najib should sue Bala July 4, 2008

If Bala had erred in his statutory declaration, Najib Razak should have instructed his lawyers to sue him, instead of getting him to take out all references pertaining to the latter.
Or maybe it was just easier, since Bala was summoned to the Brickfields Police Station right after his press conference, that a phone call between friends can kow-tim without parting with hard-earned commissions to lawyers?
This is better than kancheong kitchen!
* The Protest Against Fuel Price Hike on Sunday has moved to Kelana Jaya Stadium. Specially for those weak-kneed-at-sight-of-boys-in-blue-n-fatigues liberals who can now rally in style and under shade. No A&W snacks though.

Today we witness another episode of a consistent pattern of abuse of power and manipulation of the criminal justice system.
Recently one of the witnesses in the Altantuya trial approached us with detailed information of events connected to her disappearance and murder. The information was shocking.
Mr. P. Balasubramaniam, who was engaged by Abdul Razak Baginda as a private investigator was advised to seek legal counsel and document his story independently.
Today he is releasing a statutory declaration dated 1st July 2008 to the public detailing the story that he has to tell about what actually happened and what was told to him by key personalities in this saga including Abdul Razak Baginda and Altantuya herself.
These revelations speak for themselves. They reveal, amongst others, the following allegations: (more…)

STATUTORY DECLARATION
I, Balasubramaniam a/l Perumal (NRIC NO: 600928-08-6235) a Malaysian Citizen of full age and residing at No. 32, Jalan Pelangi 1, Taman Pelangi, Rawang, Selangor do solemly and sincerely declare as follows :-
1. I have been a police officer with the Royal Malaysian Police Force having jointed as a constable in 1981 attached to the Police Field Force. I was then promoted to the rank of lance Corporal and finally resigned from the Police Force in 1998 when I was with the Special Branch.
2. I have been working as a free lance Private Investigator since I left the Police Force.
3. Sometime in June or July 2006, I was employed by Abdul Razak Baginda for a period of 10 days to look after him at his office at the Bangunan Getah Asli, Jalan Ampang between the hours of 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m each working day as apparently he was experiencing disturbances from a third party.
4. I resigned from this job after 2 ½ days as I was not receiving any proper instructions.
5. I was however re-employed by Abdul Razak Baginda on the 05-10-2006 as he had apparently received a harassing phone call from a Chinese man calling himself ASP Tan who had threatened him to pay his debts. I later found out this gentleman was in fact a private investigator called Ang who was employed by a Mongolian woman called Altantuya Shaaribuu.
6. Abdul Razak Baginda was concerned that a person by the name of Altantuya Shaaribuu, a Mongolian woman, was behind this threat and that she would be arriving in Malaysia very soon to try and contact him.
7. Abdul Razak Baginda informed me that he was concerned by this as he had been advised that Altantuya Shaaribuu had been given some powers by a Mongolian ‘bomoh’ and that he could never look her in the face because of this.
8. When I enquired as to who this Mongolian woman was, Abdul Razak Baginda informed me that she was a friend of his who had been introduced to him by a VIP and who asked him to look after her financially.
9. I advised him to lodge a police report concerning the threatening phone call he had received from the Chinese man known as ASP Tan but he refused to do so as he informed me there were some high profile people involved.
10. Abdul Razak Baginda further told me that Altantuya Shaaribuu was a great liar and good in convincing people. She was supposed to have been very demanding financially and that he had even financed a property for her in Mongolia.

Since Thursday, I’ve had a maddening Van Halen song playing in my head, thanks to all who had SMSed and called with one and only one message:-
“Petrol price will kill us … Cannot tahan til Sept 16! Do it NOW!”
Even my normally cool capitalist bro freaked and scheduled an emergency family meeting to go through our family finances together.
Last night at Machap Baru, Melaka, during a ceramah which i shared the podium with Chegubard, Mike (Kapar MP) and Mr. Tai (Perak Exco).
Mr. Tai, towards the end of his speech which centred on the fuel price hike, told the audience to get their pens ready as he was going to give them a very very important telephone.
We held our breaths.

Petrol price hike and vanishing public transport June 5, 2008

Between the last petrol price hike and this latest one, we should have ’saved’ RM 9.9 billion, said to be allocated for improving public transport. No one would object such noble intentions, but ….
Where? WHERE???!!!!
For RM 9.9 billion, where is the state-of-the-art public transport? Subway stations? LRT extensions? Increased feeder bus service? Bicycle lanes? Anything?
Now we’re told we would ’save’ RM 13.7 billion a year after the new prices take effect today.
The government is expected to save RM13.7 billion under this new subsidy restructure and other levies.
The figures are derived from the savings made by state-owned oil company Petronas in gas and oil (RM8 billion), petrol (RM4 billion) and the independent power producer and palm oil (RM1.7 billion).
The surplus of RM13.7 billion will be used for food security policy (RM4 billion), subsidies in cooking oil (RM1.5 billion), rice import (RM400 million), flour and bread (RM300 million), petrol, diesel and gas (RM7.5 billion), Abdullah explained. (Malaysiakini, 04 June 2008)
Public transport vanishes.
But at least we have a new RM 3.45 billion double-tracking rail project Seremban-Gemas awarded to Ircon (India), to reciprocate the Indian govt giving a RM 1 billion road project to Scomi group.
Pah.

A ‘behind the scenes’ video of Toni’s beautiful voice and of our mad rehearsal that Sam and Jerry did, which was only available as a podcast until Jerry put on YouTube today.
Toni sang ‘Like a Star’ then, for Suaram’s Tribute to Human Rights Defenders a year and a half ago. Today, she joins the rest of our stars. May she have a good journey home.

Er… Najib tells Tan Kee Kwong to resign from his party.
I didn’t realise he was a member or advisor of Gerakan?
——————————–
On Wednesday’s state exco meeting, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Tan Kee Kwong and Dr Nik Mohd Zain Nik Mohd Yusof who will head the Selangor Task Force on Land Management. One could tell they were decent, capable people ready to take on this unenviable job. They spoke succinctly, with calm soft tones during their introduction to us. I like them already.
Not surprisingly, the media zeroed in on the fact that Dr. Tan is a member of Gerakan, though it should not even be of any consequence, as oppose to the dire need for sorting out land matters in Selangor. The issue at hand is the mess that is of the state’s land management, not partisan politics. Both men are capable in handling the task force. Why not?
So, here’s hoping the advisor of Gerakan won’t ’sai how sui’ and go pffstff pffftsss ffftss…
FT Gerakan Chief Confirms Taking Up Pakatan Rakyat’s Offer
By Alan Ting
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) — Federal Territory Gerakan chief Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong Wednesday confirmed that he has accepted an offer from the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) controlled Selangor government to head a special task force on land management.Tan, 61, a former deputy minister, has followed the example of former Gerakan deputy secretary-general Datuk Lee Kah Choon, who accepted the PR Penang government’s offer to head two key state agencies - InvestPenang and Penang Development Corporation.
“Yes, I have taken up the offer to be joint chairman of the six-member task force.
I’m thankful to the Selangor Government for the trust they have placed in me and to tap on my experience in dealing with land matters.
“A lot of things need to be done and we have been given three months to come out with a report to the Selangor government on the matter of land titles,” he told Bernama when contacted late Wednesday night.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim Wednesday evening announced the formation of the task force comprising six members to be jointly chaired by Tan and Datuk Dr Nik Mohd Zain Nik Mohd Yusof.
Tan was deputy land and cooperative development minister from 1999 to 2004 while Mohd Zain had been the ministry’s director-general from 1996 to 2002.
Asked why he decided to accept the offer, Dr Tan said: “As you know, I have always been seen as the “thorn in the flesh” or “trouble maker in the party”.
“I have tried to do something for Gerakan but have always been regarded as the person who went against the system. I’m already 61 years old now and I’m pleased that Tan Sri Khalid appreciates my past experience. My party does not appreciate me,” he added.
Asked whether he would resign from Gerakan, Dr Tan said: “Let the party leaders see the news Thursday and I will wait to see what they are going to do”.
Meanwhile, Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye, when contacted, said the party would like to hear from Dr Tan himself on his decision to accept the Selangor government offer before making any statement.
“Until then, that is my comment. Until now, we have not received any notification from him,” he said.

(Malay Mail) Sitting heats up on last day May 27, 2008

Selangor State Assembly > Sitting heats up on last day
27 May 2008 THERE were several angry moments on the closing day.
Gombak Setia Assemblyman Datuk Dr Hassan Mohamed Ali got heated up while he spoke of carpet being ripped off from the floor and sparse furniture when he took office after the swearing-in ceremony.
An angry Dr Hassan asked: “Apa ini? (What’s this?)” Speaker Teng Chang Kim quickly interjected asking Dr Hassan to calm down.
“Jangan marah sangat, nanti darah tinggi (Don’t be so angry, or you’ll have high blood pressure),” said Teng, drawing laughter from the House.
Bukit Lanjan Assemblyman Elizabeth Wong was also aggressive but with Templer Park’s Datuk Subahan Kamal who wanted to interject during her winding-up speech.
Subahan was harshly refused by Wong, who is also the Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment exco, who sternly said: “Saya tak akan memberi laluan kepada budak-budak suruhan Menteri Pelancongan (I’m not giving way to the Tourism Minister’s lackeys).” Wong’s speech also prompted Sekinchan’s Ng Suee Lim to ask if there were plans to turn the Exco Village in Section 7, Shah Alam into a tourist attraction.
“The State Government can generate revenue from entry fees into the Exco Village as I am sure many members of the public are eager to see what it is like in there. They can see for themselves an example of corruption,” said Ng, who was applauded by fellow Assemblymen.
Whether in jest or otherwise, Wong replied she would bring the idea up with the menteri besar, adding there were similar suggestions for Istana Zakaria.
This prompted Morib’s Hasiman Sidom to ask if the new pig farms can also be included, to which Wong replied: “We will certainly consider your suggestion.”
